Over 500 residents of Fagba, Iju area of Lagos, have received free blood pressure and sugar screenings sponsored by Selai Gas, an oil and gas company.
The gesture came at a time the national conversations increasingly emphasise the need for Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to bridge critical gaps in public life.
It also provided the much-needed health insights for individuals, who may never have had access to such services.
This was at the company’s latest six days outreach in Fagba, which underscores how businesses can move beyond commerce to address pressing social challenges head-on.
It is part of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative that blends corporate commitment, community focus and philanthropy.
The initiative stands as a demonstration of private sector capacity to fill urgent gaps in public welfare showing what can be achieved when businesses embrace their role as stakeholders in national development.
According to the firm, the literacy level on health and safety remains low in many suburban communities.
Quoting statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the firm indicated that over 40 percent of low-income households lack access to health education and preventive checks, leaving them exposed to avoidable risks.
It noted that the development made the management of the company to design the programme, intended to strike at the heart of two critical issues, comprising community health awareness and domestic safety.
Fagba, home to a predominantly low-income population, presents a vivid picture of this challenge. Here, families work hard to make ends meet, often with little room left to address health checks or home safety.
Beyond health, Selai Gas also invested in household safety and aesthetics by refurbishing and repainting over 400 domestic gas cylinders free of charge, reaffirming its care for both the well-being and daily comfort of its customers.
This initiative is firmly anchored in Selai’s broader mission to deliver safe, affordable and customer-focused energy solutions while extending tangible value to communities. It is also a clear expression of the company’s “Beyond Business” philosophy, which views profitability and philanthropy not as opposing forces, but as complementary commitments to the society Selai serves.
Speaking at this event, Selai Gas’ Managing Director, Damilola Owolabi -Osinusi, said: “Selai Gas was founded on more than the provision of energy. We see ourselves as partners in progress with the communities we serve. This initiative is about going beyond business, showing that health, safety and dignity are as important as the products we sell.”
A welcome Initiative by the Private Sector Participants (PSP) have lauded the programme as both timely and exemplary, noting that it provides a blueprint for how corporations can align their business expertise with community needs.
