5 die while excavating sand in Kano

Five persons have been confirmed death in a tragic sand excavation accident that occurred at Yanlami Village in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano Sate.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi explained that the deceased were trapped in the sand which imploded from within and overwhelmed them.

The statement listed the victims of the tragedy to include Alasan Abdulhamid, aged 22, Muhd Sulaiman, aged 35 and Masaudu Nasiru, aged 25.

The statement equally included Jibrin Musa, aged 30 and Jafaru Abdulwahabu, aged 30 as victims of the accident.

It explained that on arrival at the scene of the tragedy, their officials rescued the victims unconscious, adding that they were later confirmed dead by medical authorities.

The statement disclosed that the remains of the victims were handed over to the Bichi police division and the village head of Yanlami village for further action and onward delivery to the families of the deceased.
