FOUR persons are still missing, following a boat that capsised, on Saturday, after the governorship and House of Assembly elections in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The both capsised at Ureju community, while conveying locals and security operatives from Ward 03 (Ebrohimi) to the council headquarters in Koko town.
Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke, who confirmed the development in Asaba, said 18 passengers have so far been rescued, while four are still missing.
Those rescued included the three police officers and 15 locals, according to Mr. Adeleke, who added that two of the victims were rushed to the hospital.
Adeleke also confirmed that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were not involved in the boat mishap, and called for calm, adding that search for the missing passengers was still in progress.
The state Resident Electoral Commission, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe, had, yesterday morning, confirmed the boat mishap. He said election officials were not involved and materials not affected.
“I understand that my staff members are not involved; they are all safe and the ad hoc staff are safe, too. The actual details have got to me right now. And I don’t think the mishap affected the materials because it happened later in the day, from what I know,” he said.
