The  Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State  Command has  confirmed that four persons died on Monday in an accident that involved two vehicles, along the Ijebu-Imushin axis of Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway.

Command’s spokesperson, Odunsi Afolabi, said the crash involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number: BD J482 XC and a blue MAN Diesel truck with registration number: RSH 969 XC.

According to him, at approximately 11:16 p.m., a Toyota Hiace bus collided with a MAN Diesel truck, belonging to Julius Berger. Regrettably, all four individuals involved in the crash comprising two male adults and two female sustained  injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene.

”The remains of the victims were evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu Ode.”

He said that preliminary investigations indicated that the crash was caused by Speed Violation (SPV).

He also said that the truck was being towed when the towing chain snapped, and the speeding Toyota bus subsequently rammed into  it.

He added that following the collision, the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene, leaving the truck behind.

Afolabi said that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Imushin Division, has however, taken custody of the vehicles and the case for further investigation.

He quoted the state Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, as urging all motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, especially during night travel.

Fasakin also urged towing companies to ensure that their towing equipment meets safety standards to prevent such avoidable tragedies.

In another development, a road accident involving a fuel tanker trailer and commercial tricycles, popularly known as “Keke Marwa,” has claimed one life and left several others injured in the Beere,Ibadan, Oyo State capital, yesterday afternoon.

The incident, which occurred around 1:15 p.m., threw the busy inner-city corridor into chaos as the tanker reportedly lost control and rammed into multiple tricycles conveying passengers.

Witnesses at the scene described a moment of panic as the heavy-duty vehicle crushed the tricycles, leaving some occupants trapped beneath the wreckage.

“It happened very fast. The tanker lost its brakes from the Oja-Oba area, descending the slope toward Beere before crashing into the Keke. People started shouting and running,” a resident said.

Graphic images and videos circulating online from the crash site show severely damaged tricycles pinned under the tanker, while bystanders and first responders struggled to rescue victims.

Emergency responders, including police officers and traffic management officials, were promptly deployed to the scene to control the situation, evacuate the injured, and restore order to traffic in the area.
