Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 30 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and murderers. Commissioner of Police, Umar Mohammed Hadejia, said: “I have charged officers to rise to the task and flush out criminals from the state. We have put in place robust security measures in commitment to proactive policing.
“Our officers remain committed to pursuing justice with diligence and integrity. The command officially launched the Violent Crimes Response Unit [VCRU], equipped with six operational vehicles and five motorcycles, to strengthen rapid response, intelligence-led policing and effective tackling of violent crime.
“The command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating without proper registration, concealed or altered number plates, in line with the Inspector General of Police’s directive to strengthen public safety and prevent criminal activities.
Between May and July, the command recorded breakthroughs and charged some suspects to court, while some are still under investigation. The command neutralised a notorious kidnapper’s gang leader, terrorising Geza, Adawa, Matsinkai, Sharabi, Illela, Suru, Dakin Gari and Bagudo communities.
“The command has continued to sustain aggressive patrols and tactical deployments in identified flashpoints. These operations also led to interventions against bandits’ activities, including engagements with criminal elements, protection of vulnerable communities, and restoration of confidence among residents.
“Operatives in Illo Division, Bagudo LG, arrested three suspected bandits along Illo-Lolo Road, intercepted with motorcycles, and arrested seven suspected bandits over the killing of FRSC personnel along Bakin Ruwa/ Kaoje axis. The suspects have been charged to court.
“Police Mobile Force deployed on special duty along the Kaoje-Bakin Ruwa Road, Bagudo LG, intercepted four suspects in Soda forest in Bagudo. Operatives arrested some suspects on alleged on mission to supply foodstuffs and soft drinks to criminal elements. One of the suspects is in Zazzagawa, Argungun LG. He is a member of Lakurawa terrorist gang.

“Police supported by civil JTF and vigilantes in the area arrested kidnappers who invaded Bayan forest, Birnin Kebbi metropolis. They recovered N220,000 and mobile phones. Operatives of Makera Division, on routine patrol at Makera Market, arrested a suspect in Arewa LG and recovered one locally made pistol.
“Four suspects involved in the Gulma farmers-herders clash in Argungun LG were arrested and arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. Also, operatives arrested a five-member syndicate responsible for series of armed robberies, abductions and one- chance operations along major highways in Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Jega, Maiyama, and Aliero LGAs. They robbed victims of their ATM cards and withdrew N9,000 the ATM cards.
“A brother in connection with the murder of a couple in Asarara village, Kimba district, Jega LG was arrested. The suspect used a cutlass to attack the couple while asleep, they died from their injuries.
“The command is on heightened alert, with sustained surveillance and raids ongoing in identified blackspots and flashpoints. The command is implementing community policing, applying professionalism. When operatives are carrying out their duties. I have advised them on discipline, professionalism and integrity as core values every officer must uphold.
“With the visit of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, supervising North West, Sulaiman Abdul, we had a critical stakeholders’ gathering, including traditional rulers, security agencies, religious leaders and community representatives addressing security challenges, enhancing early warning mechanisms, and promoting peaceful coexistence.
“We commend Governor Mohammed Idris for government support and partnership with the police to flush criminals out of the state.”
