No fewer than three people were killed during an exchange of gun shots between robbers and security operatives in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday.

Findings showed that the robbers stormed Steel Rolling Mills (now Dangote Company), at midnight, and engaged in a gun duel with the security who were said to have received tips about the activities of the robbers.

A security source confided in Daily Sun that five suspects sustained serious injuries and were taken to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

The spokesperson of the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the incident, said, “Armed robbers exchanged guns with the police. They engaged the police for some minutes. I can not confirm the number of those killed.”

The Corps Commandant of Amotekun, Brig Gen. Bashir Adewimbi (retd), also confirmed the incident.

He said: “They shot at our boys and they responded. It is a joint patrol of police, hunters, and Amotekun. They have been causing damage to the Steel Rolling Mills. We had no choice, but to engage them,” Adewimbi said.
