A young man of about 28 years whose name was not given has reportedly butchered his father, Okereke Nwamgbo at Ndiboko Ote Village, Ezza Inyimagu Community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. A resident of the area, Nwegbara Aloh told Saturday Sun that trouble broke out between the two men on Saturday, September 9, over who should keep N38,000 meant to get a wife for the alleged assailant.
The source said that the deceased had sensed that the money would be used for buying illicit substances suspected to be hard drugs commonly called “Oncolos,” if handed over to his son, so, he insisted on keeping it himself.
According the source, the suspected killer, who was always under the influence of substances, had been a problem to his entire family until recently when the parents leased their piece of land for N38,000 to get a wife for him, believing that such plan would change his life.
Unfortunately, after the money had been paid, the accused suddenly accosted his father and requested to be given the money, Following the old man’s refusal, the son brought out a well-sharpened cutlass and began to thrust it on the father until he (Nwamgbo) died. It was further gathered that after the dastardly act, the alleged assailant woke up early in the morning and started digging a grave to bury the lifeless body. But he was caught in the process by youths of the area who later handed him over to police operatives from the Iboko Divisional Police headquarters.
Another resident, Mrs Eucharia Nwibo stated that the young man had in the time past, apparently after taking substances, inflicted injuries on his mother’s head for no just cause.
Public Relations Officer of Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya said operatives at the Izzi Police Divisional Headquarters were already investigating the matter.
