Energia Limited, an indigenous Nigerian exploration and production company, is expanding its oil and gas operations with plans to raise field capacity to 20,000 barrels per day and deepen its participation across the wider energy value chain.
The company, which was established in 2001 by Nigerian oil and gas professionals, said it is also developing a 5,000-barrel-per-day crude distillation unit at Onshore Kwale, Delta State, while advancing gas monetisation and expanding its asset portfolio.
The developments form part of the company’s plans for its next phase of operations as it marks 25 years in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Energia currently has interests in the Ebendo/Obodeti field and has secured interests in the Ugbo and Irigbo marginal fields. The company said it is working to upgrade its existing field capacity to 20,000 barrels of oil per day.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Energia, Oladimeji Bashorun, said the company’s next phase would focus on operational performance, responsible energy development, innovation and strategic growth.

Energia achieved first oil from the Ebendo/Obodeti field in 2009, marking the beginning of its commercial production activities.
The company subsequently invested in field development, production infrastructure and gas processing. Between 2010 and 2013, it worked with Xenergi on the installation of a 25 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) gas processing plant, which reached pre-commissioning in December 2011.
In 2012, Energia reprocessed its 3D seismic data to support further field development, drilled and completed its first development well and reached one million barrels of cumulative crude oil production.
The company expanded its crude storage and production infrastructure in 2014, including additional storage tanks and an upgrade of its flow station capacity to 8,000 barrels of oil per day and 25 MMSCFD of gas.
Its cumulative crude oil production reached five million barrels in March 2016 and subsequently crossed 10 million barrels in 2020.
Since 2021, Energia said it has continued to invest in its technical and operational infrastructure, including the completion of a produced-water treatment plant, acquisition and processing of new 3D seismic data and drilling of two wells in the northern part of its field.

The company’s expansion is also extending beyond its existing upstream operations.
At Onshore Kwale in Delta State, Energia is developing the 5,000-barrel-per-day crude distillation unit as part of efforts to participate in additional segments of the oil and gas value chain.
The company is also pursuing gas processing and monetisation opportunities, building on its existing gas infrastructure.

The company’s expansion comes amid efforts by indigenous oil and gas operators to increase their participation in Nigeria’s upstream sector and develop additional domestic capacity across the energy value chain.
Energia was founded by Nigerian oil and gas professionals, many of whom were members of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), with the objective of demonstrating indigenous technical and operational capacity in the industry.
Over the past two and a half decades, the company has moved from an exploration and production business into an energy company with activities covering crude oil production, gas processing, crude storage and export infrastructure.
Its five-month 25th anniversary programme, according to the company, will include stakeholder engagements and activities focused on its operations, partnerships, community initiatives and contribution to the energy sector.
Energia said it has also implemented community development initiatives in areas including education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth development, agriculture and community welfare.
The company said its priorities for the coming years include strengthening operational capacity, expanding its asset portfolio, advancing gas monetisation and increasing its participation across Nigeria’s oil and gas value chain.
