President Bola Tinubu has promised to engage directly with Nigerians during the 2027 general election campaign, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council handles the party’s nationwide mobilisation.
The President made this known at the inauguration of the campaign council, explaining that he would not be able to accompany party campaigners to every state and local government area because of his responsibilities as head of government.
Tinubu said party leaders had advised him to avoid allowing campaign engagements to affect his administration’s work, a position he said he accepted.
According to him, the demands of governing the country require his continued attention, regardless of the political activities leading up to the next general election.
“I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now than ever before,” the President said, referring to the advice against allowing campaign activities to distract him from governance.
He maintained that his duties as President would continue throughout the election period, arguing that the Constitution does not provide for government business to be put on hold because of political campaigns.
“The job must go on,” Tinubu said, reiterating that the responsibilities of his office would remain in force while the APC pursues its electoral ambitions.
Despite delegating much of the campaign work to the council, the President assured party members that he would create opportunities to address voters himself.
“However, I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians, even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas,” he said.
Tinubu charged council members with explaining his administration’s policies, achievements and future plans to Nigerians as the party seeks another mandate in 2027.
He said the inauguration represented a renewed commitment by the APC to the people and urged the campaign team to communicate the party’s objectives across the country.
The President expressed confidence in the council’s responsibility to take the party’s message to communities nationwide, including individual wards.
He also acknowledged party leaders and members for their contributions to the APC’s internal processes, which produced its leadership structures at ward, local government, state and national levels.
Reaffirming his commitment to the party’s platform, Tinubu said he intended to remain faithful to its manifesto and the promises made to Nigerians.
Describing himself as a servant of the party, he pledged to uphold its stated objectives and commitments.
The President urged members of the campaign council to recognise the importance of their assignment as the APC prepares to canvass support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
