The Tinubu Again Movement on Wednesday mobilised Nollywood actors, musicians, producers and other entertainers in Asaba, Delta State, for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The movement, founded by the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, held the stakeholders’ meeting and sensitisation programme to rally creative industry professionals behind Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The event, tagged “Creative Voices for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” attracted actors, filmmakers, musicians, influencers, broadcasters, comedians and other entertainment practitioners.
The movement said the engagement was part of its nationwide mobilisation of the creative sector ahead of the 2027 election.
The Director-General of the movement said the Tinubu administration had recognised the creative industry as a key component of the Nigerian economy.
He cited the establishment of the Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy as part of measures to create an enabling environment for the sector.
He also highlighted the appointment of industry professionals to strategic positions within the creative sector.
Those mentioned included Obi Asika as Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture; Ali Nuhu as Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation; and Tola Akerele as Director-General of the National Theatre.
Others were Shu’aibu Hussaini, Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board; Dr Olayiwola Awakan, Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority; and Aisha Adamu of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation.
“Having professionals from the industry who understand the ecosystem of the industry, its opportunities and its challenges is contributing directly to the growth of the sector,” the Director-General said.
He also listed government-backed initiatives, including the i-DICE initiative, Creative Economy Development Fund, Creative Leap Acceleration Programme and Intellectual Property Monetisation initiative.
According to him, the programmes are aimed at addressing financing, skills development, innovation, intellectual property and enterprise development in the creative economy.
The Director-General further urged the entertainment industry to support the movement’s #20MVForTinubu mobilisation target.
He described the creative and entertainment community as an important platform for public engagement and political mobilisation.
Speaking on behalf of the participating entertainers, veteran comedian Baba K pledged the support of Nollywood practitioners for Tinubu’s re-election.
“Though we are not politicians, but we will support and work for everyone who cares for us,” Baba K said.
He added, “We go do for you, if you do for us,” drawing laughter from the audience.
