2027: Tinubu has failed Nigerians – Tambuwal

Aminu-Tambuwal

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has accused President Bola Tinubu of failing to provide effective leadership, saying his administration has not delivered on key promises made before the 2023 general election.

Tambuwal made the remarks on Wednesday during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign flag-off in Sokoto, where he urged Nigerians to vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

He faulted the Tinubu administration over electricity supply, insecurity, roads and other infrastructure, arguing that the President had failed to make meaningful progress in these areas.

“Bola Tinubu and his team have failed woefully in providing leadership for Nigeria,” Tambuwal said.

He recalled that Tinubu had promised to improve electricity supply during the 2023 campaign but questioned what the administration had achieved in power, security and infrastructure.

“Has he been able to do that? Has he done anything about insecurity in Nigeria? What about roads and infrastructure? Nothing,” he said.

Tambuwal urged Nigerians to support ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and other party candidates in the 2027 elections. He also called on supporters to remain at polling units until votes were counted and results announced.

“Therefore, they have no business whatsoever remaining in power. Come January 2027, by the grace of God, we shall come out and vote for Atiku Abubakar and all candidates of the ADC and remain at the polling units until the votes are counted and the results declared,” he said.

He warned against electoral malpractice, insisting that the party would protect its votes and work towards securing victory at the polls.

Tambuwal also criticised Tinubu’s supporters in the North for relying on the President’s past political alliances rather than presenting his record in office.

He referred to Tinubu’s political relationships with Atiku in 2007, Nuhu Ribadu in 2011 and former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and 2019, arguing that the focus should be on the President’s performance since assuming office.

“They are not campaigning on his scorecard. He is a sitting president. What has he done? What has he achieved in the last three and a half years? Nigeria has been retrogressing. There is a lot of hunger, a lot of poverty and a lot of killings all over Nigeria,” he said.

The former governor maintained that political loyalty should not take precedence over the country’s need for effective leadership.

He further urged ADC supporters to monitor the movement of election results from polling units to ward, local government and state collation centres.

“You must accompany each and every polling unit result to the ward level, then to the local government headquarters and subsequently to the state headquarters, where they will be matched,” he said.
