The Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown its weight behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential choice ahead of the 2027 elections, setting an early tone for the party’s internal race.

The position was made public on Sunday in Sokoto by party leader Alhaji Muktar Magori during a press briefing attended by senior stakeholders and officials of the party in the state.

Magori, a former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said the endorsement followed broad consultations among ADC loyalists and key political actors in Sokoto State.

According to him, the decision is part of early alignment ahead of the party’s presidential primaries and the 2027 general elections.

“This decision is in preparation for the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries and the 2027 general elections,” he said.

The briefing attracted several notable party figures, including former Commissioner for Information Alhaji Dahiru Maishanu, former Head of Service Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, and the ADC State Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu.

The endorsement of Atiku by the Sokoto State chapter signals growing internal positioning within the ADC as political actors begin early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 contest.
