Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has urged people in the South-East to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, asking them to ignore calls discouraging the region from voting for the President.

Mbah made the appeal on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) women’s mega rally and empowerment programme held at Okpara Square in Enugu.

The event was flagged off by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

The governor said the 2027 general election would test the ability of people from the South-East to build political relationships beyond their region, insisting that the Igbo were not ethnic bigots.

He urged residents to mobilise and vote for Tinubu and other APC candidates, saying the President’s administration had made funds available to state governments to support infrastructure development.

“We must finish the journey we all started together. We must come out on January 16 with our PVC and ensure that the good work Mr President is doing will continue,” Mbah said.

He added: “Don’t listen to any voice. Those voices telling us a different thing. We, the Igbos have gone to communities outside our zone to build businesses.

“We also know how to build relationships. And that is being put to test. We are not a people that are ethnic bigots. We are a people that are strategic.”

Mbah called on the electorate to support Tinubu and APC candidates in the forthcoming elections, saying the region should strengthen its political engagement beyond the South-East.

Also speaking at the rally, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, declared that the South-East was committed to supporting Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Uzodimma said the Tinubu administration had brought the region into an era of greater political inclusion after years of perceived marginalisation.

He cited improvements in road infrastructure, electricity, healthcare and education as reasons the President deserved another term.

“We are now seeing good roads, electricity, health reforms as well as educational reforms in the country. A winning team must not be changed,” he said.
