Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) presidential hopeful, Gbenga Hashim has met with the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, as part of efforts to unite the opposition party, ahead of the 2027 polls.
Hashim, according to a statement by his media office, described the meeting as productive and forward looking and noted that discussions centered on uniting members of the opposition party to enable the PDP to play a more decisive role in the country’s multi party democratic system.
The presidential aspirant commended Governor Makinde for his commitment to the PDP and his role in supporting the survival and growth of Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
According to him, unity is fundamental to the PDP’s ability to provide credible opposition and national leadership, especially at a time when Nigeria’s democratic system requires stability, inclusiveness, and institutional strength.
Furthermore, Hashim expressed confidence that sustained dialogue among stakeholders would help bridge internal divides and reposition the party for greater competitiveness in future elections.
The parley between the two PDP leaders is coming, amid several engagements among party leaders aimed at redefining alliances, strengthening party structures, and managing internal tensions ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The PDP has been embroiled in crisis following a sharp disagreement between the PDP Governors led by Bauchi governor, Bala Mohammed and Makinde, on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Nyesom Wike on the other hand.
The development has led to two camps in the opposition party- the Tanimu Turaki led National Working Committee ( NWC), which is supported by the governors, and the National Caretaker Committee, which is backed by Wike.
