Former presidential aspirant and media entrepreneur, Ada Kate Uchegbu, has expressed disappointment over the inability of major political parties to field female presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She described the development as a missed opportunity for Nigeria to embrace inclusive leadership and fresh ideas.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists, she noted that while women continue to excel in sectors, such as business, diplomacy, academia, healthcare, entrepreneurship and public administration, they remain significantly underrepresented in top political leadership positions.
According to her, the absence of female presidential candidates among the major political parties sends the wrong message to millions of young Nigerian girls, who aspire to leadership roles.
“I am disappointed, not necessarily because I did not emerge, but because once again Nigerian women have been denied the opportunity to present their vision at the highest level of political leadership.
“We speak about inclusion, equity and national development, yet when it comes to the presidency, women are often overlooked,” she said.
Uchegbu argued that Nigeria’s political landscape would benefit from greater female participation, stressing that women possess leadership qualities capable of addressing many of the country’s challenges.
She maintained that women often bring empathy, accountability, discipline and people-centred governance into public administration.
The former aspirant said her consultations across the country revealed that many Nigerians were eager for a new direction and more diverse leadership options.
She added that citizens consistently raised concerns about the rising cost of living, insecurity, unemployment, inflation and declining purchasing power.
