House of Representatives 2027 aspirants on the platforms of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have promised to collapse their political structures to enhance the re-election of President Bola Tinubu during next year’s presidential election.
Speaking when they visited the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, they disclosed that they have produced a documentary to sell the achievements of President Tinubu to the Nigeria electorate, appealing for support from the ruling party.
National coordinator of the group, Danjuma Mohammed, who led his team on the courtesy visit noted that they decided to pitch their tent with the APC following the reforms and achievements of the Tinubu-led administration.
Explaining that the forum was established in 2022 under PDP platform, Mohamed said that the primary objective of uniting aspirants who participated in the party’s primary election that did not emerge as candidates.
He also stated that the group mobilised support for the candidate of the PDP in the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar and his then running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, pleading with the APC to include them in their campaign plans.
Mohammed assured the party’s national leadership that many of their members who had earlier joined the ruling party reenforced their decision to switch camps.
Announcing the documentary on President Tinubu to checkmate the plans of the opposition to misrepresent the facts using the temporary challenges poses by the reforms, he said: “We recognise that opposition elements may engage in mischievous misrepresentation of the short-term efforts of Mr President’s reforms and seek to undermine public confidence in their potential positive impact by capitalising on the temporary difficulties many Nigerians are facing.”
“To provide accurate and balanced information, we have carefully reviewed the reform agenda and compiled a concise summary of the key achievements of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for public information.
“Following subsequent political developments, many members of our forum have joined the All Progressives Congress. We have since grouped under the APC, united by our resolve to support the direction of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and his Vice President, Kashim Shettima, for a second term, and work for the success of APC candidates in the forthcoming general election.
“Our membership comprises aspirants drawn from across the 360 federal constituencies in Nigeria, giving us a broad political network and a presence that cuts across the country’s diverse constituencies.
“Having participated in the political process at the constituency level, our members understand local political dynamics and maintain relationships with party stakeholders, grassroots mobilisers, community leaders, and supporters.
“We are determined to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda, strengthen party unity, and support the party’s programmes and electoral objectives,” he said.
In his response, Yilwatda assured the group that the APC is open to accommodate all shades of opinion, and eager to leave the country better than they met it.
“In terms of structural and organisational capacity, we have the best in terms of organisation. We have the best in terms of number of governors, number of ministers, number of local government chairmen, number of councillors. Just leave it to us. We have the numbers.
“We want to convert those numbers to victory, and we need to form that partnership. We want to make sure that our strength goes beyond these numbers I’m calling down to the polling unit, because that’s where the election will take place.
“Partner with us, work with us, and victory is sure for all of us. I want to welcome you to your house, welcome to your party, and thank you for the support. And we have a directorate that works with you already, and I will link you up with the directorate so that the work will start,” he said.
