From Obinna Odogwu, Awka
Senator Uche Ekwunife, running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2025 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, has endorsed the joint ticket of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This is coming at a time when there are speculations over the possible replacement of Shettima, a Muslim with a Christian candidate to balance the APC presidential ticket, which has been a subject of controversy since the 2023 general elections.
The speculation and the growing pressure for Shettima’s replacement is gradually gaining traction across the country with many Christians demanding a balance at Nigeria’s top political positions.
Ekwunife, however, endorsed the duo for a second term at a stakeholders’ meeting of the party which she convened at her event centre in Awka, the state capital, to deliberate on the party’s e-registration exercise in the state.
“Nigeria is in good hands. All we need to do is to pray for our leaders and for Anambra APC, Anambra APC has come to stay and we will ensure that the party wins elections in 2027”, she assured.
Ekwunife encouraged the party leaders to mobilise and register members across the 326 wards in the state, saying that the party targets to register at least 1,000 people per ward, which would amount to 326,000 members in the state.
Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Basil Ejidike, told party stakeholders that the party under his watch has adopted new strategies that would help them win elections in the state starting from next year.
He charged the ward chairmen and other party leaders at the grassroots to take the e-registration exercise very seriously, saying that the first top three local government areas would go home with N500,000 (1st position); N300,000 (2nd position) and N150,000 (3rd position).
