Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have intensified efforts to strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections following concerns over the conduct of the party’s nationwide primaries.

The governors, under the auspices of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), met with the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to review recent electoral activities and discuss measures to resolve internal disagreements before the next phase of the campaign.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma said the forum assessed the outcome of the party’s primaries, the Ekiti State governorship election and several recent bye-elections.

“We reviewed the outcome of the primaries across the federation, the Ekiti governorship election and the various bye-elections where our party performed impressively,” Uzodimma said.

He noted that the governors were encouraged by the party’s recent electoral performance and expressed optimism about the APC’s prospects in the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.

According to him, the meeting also resolved to work closely with the party’s national leadership to harmonise campaign strategies and promote greater cohesion within the APC.

Uzodimma added that the governors discussed broader governance issues and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that Nigerians benefit more from APC-led administrations.

“We have resolved to work towards solving the challenges facing our democratic space and ensuring that our people are better off,” he said.

The meeting was attended by governors from several APC-controlled states, including Lagos, Kaduna, Borno, Gombe, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kano, Zamfara, Taraba, Ekiti and Akwa Ibom.

The reconciliation move follows widespread complaints over the party’s nationwide primaries conducted in May, which were marred by allegations of irregularities, candidate imposition and manipulation of delegate lists.

The controversies reportedly prompted the APC leadership to delay the release of the full list of successful candidates in a bid to prevent further internal disputes and reconcile aggrieved party members ahead of the 2027 elections.
