The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has declared that its members will not support any political alliance or arrangement capable of undermining President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid or weakening the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The position was announced on Monday in Abuja by Hope Uzodimma, Imo State governor and chairman of the forum, after a meeting of APC governors.
Uzodimma said the governors had unanimously resolved to support Tinubu and all APC candidates contesting elections under the party’s platform.
“The forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support, or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr president, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” he said.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate.”
The Imo governor said the governors’ campaign efforts would cover all APC candidates, stressing that their commitment would remain exclusively within the party’s structure.
“Because our candidates are standing in the election as being sponsored by our party, the governor’s campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates,” Uzodimma said.
He added that the forum would reject political arrangements capable of creating “confusion, divided loyalty or competing interests” within the APC.
Uzodimma also disclosed that the APC would adopt an integrated and locally responsive campaign structure ahead of the 2027 elections, with the party’s campaign architecture aligned with Tinubu’s expectations and its strategic objectives.
The declaration comes amid political activities surrounding the National Rainbow Coalition led by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Although Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said the coalition is focused on securing Tinubu’s re-election, APC governors have expressed concern over arrangements involving candidates outside the ruling party.
