The Media Office of the former governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has reiterated the determination of the lawmaker to deliver the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring unequivocally that the party does not need Governor Alex Otti to win elections in Abia State.

In a statement on Tuesday, signed by George Maduka, it said the APC remains united and solid in Abia, stressing that there is no division within the party.

It noted that if any party is currently grappling with internal crises, it is Governor Otti’s Labour Party (LP), pointing to the fact that several Labour Party local government chairmen are now operating from other political platforms such as ZLP and YPP as clear evidence of deep-rooted disarray.

According to the statement, Governor Otti has grossly overrated himself politically, noting that it took the intervention of key stakeholders across Abia State to rally support around him before he was eventually declared governor in the 2023 governorship election. The statement challenged Governor Otti to deny that he personally visited Senator Kalu’s residence in Igbere late at night on the eve of the election.

The statement further recalled that prominent individuals involved in the Labour Party’s 2023 campaign, including Chief Umeh Kalu, SAN, who served as the party’s coordinator in Abia State, cannot deny holding discussions with Senator Kalu concerning the governorship election. It questioned the logic of seeking such intervention if claims of political irrelevance were indeed true.

“If he was not relevant, why was his house in Igbere visited on the night before the election?” the statement queried.

The statement challenged Governor Otti to be bold enough to confront Senator Kalu directly instead of deploying what it described as idle media aides to issue press statements on his behalf. It reaffirmed that Senator Kalu remains determined to deliver the APC at all levels in Abia State without apology or pretence. The statement noted that just as Governor Otti openly supported candidates of his party, including backing Peter Obi against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Kalu has also openly declared that he will not abandon President Tinubu in 2027.

The statement concluded by reaffirming Senator Kalu’s total and unwavering loyalty to the APC and its leadership, stressing that his commitment to the party’s success in Abia State remains resolute.
