Now, being alive to see the forth day of the new year is a great privilege which we enjoy out of the undiluted grace of God. We are indeed fortunate, considering the numerous challenges a lot of people had to contend with in the just concluded year. In the midst of these challenges, some fell by the wayside, while others managed to crawl into the new year.

Some people have made it a habit to draw a list of new year resolutions. However, rather than draw up a long list of new year resolutions that may not survive the first quarter of the year, let us consider a few achievable positive changes that can guide us and make us better people in the new year.
To start with, couples should learn to lubricate their relationships. Some people might find this very difficult based on their past experience especially with their spouses. It is not as difficult as many may think.It is just a matter of simple reset of the mind. With effective communication things could be turned around for better. Communication is one of the key ingredients that can help to lubricate relationships.
It is important for people to know that relationship comeback is much more possible when parties involved are willing and ready to make things work out as it is often said that it takes two to tango.
Dear friends,from this new year, let’s take lead roles in our relationships, activities and see the man or the woman we desire in the game. Interestingly, one can surprise his or her partner with certain decisions and actions.
Instead of burning data admiring filtered photographs use your data to search for property sites, take a walk to building material markets and know their prices as if you want to start a building project immediately. Come back and discuss with your partner. Swing a surprise on him or her and see the more likeable side of your partner.
Again, men must creatively seek and find additional lubricants to oil and smoothen their relationship with wives beyond money and sex. Your wife should be proud of you at all times.
I knew a family, the Lawrence, many years ago. This family lived a modest life. Mary, a wife of 11-years would always say, “if there is reincarnation, may our paths cross again.” One wonders what did that magic? “I am called a mother today because of the kind of husband that I am married to. He is not a billionaire but I am proud of him. I am the type that pregnancy throws off the balance. The moment we experienced the third miscarriage in our relationship my husband stopped me from all domestic chores because we realized that stress played a major role in those miscarriages. But my husband stood in the gap. My duty then was to wake up, have my bath, eat and sleep for the first trimester. That was how we rolled until four babies stayed with us. I am always proud of my husband,” Mrs Lawrence once told me.
Dr. Bertha Ekeh, consultant Neurologist, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital Akwa Ibom, in an interview gave some personal health tips to lubricate the year 2026. One of them is showing kindness and forgiveness in the new year as displayed by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. Akpabio after listening to the new year message in his home church showed us all what we need to do to genuinely free ourselves from avoidable burdens that may want to hold us down this year. “After listening to today’s New Year Homily at the Sacred Heart parish Uyo, which dwelt on letting go of the painful part for peace to reign; I have decided to forgive all of them. I listened to the priest and realized he was talking to me; there and then, I directed my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them. I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me and who slandered my name.” The senate president said.
Another way to lubricate the new year is to avoid junk foods. Where are the people who eat junks constantly? Men and women who sleep and wake up in fast food joints? Women who have made it their habit to take their children to fast food joints and fill their lunch bags with fast food? Make up your mind to deliver yourselves and your families from the clutches of poor eating habit this year. Such places should be visited once in a while or as a treat for one good conduct or the other. This is the year to stick to healthy food. When the meal is prepared from home, one can be sure of the ingredients that go into it. You are also sure of what your family is eating. So many fast-food joints will make food in hasty manner, easy as the name signifies, ‘fast food.’
Make a personal choice to drink gallons of water in this new year. Some people find it extremely difficult to drink water, instead they prefer canned drinks and juices.
Anytime I see how these drinks are exposed and left under the scorching sun while being displayed, I shudder at the realization that this drinks will be gulped by people who perhaps do not know the health implication of taking such drinks. Studies have shown that water remains the healthiest form of drinks and that is why one should make it a personal choice to drink gallons of it.
Exercise is also crucial for healthy living. Health experts will often advise their patients to engage in some form of exercise which they considered helpful for their recuperation. There are simple exercises that one could engage in. Walking round the house severally is a very good form of exercise. Cleaning the house, removing cobwebs, whatever will make the body to move round is a very good form of exercise. Raising the hands, bending, strolling and walking are all recommended forms of exercise that one can conveniently engage in. One does not necessarily need to be at the gym before deciding to exercise.
Losing weight is yet another personal choice people, especially those with the tendency to be obese, must make to have a healthy year. Of course, it is definitely not going to be an easy choice, it is a decision that must be made by anyone who desires to cut down health risks associated with obesity. A race of a thousand kilometer starts with a step. It does not necessarily mean a complete abstinence from food, but reduced intake of fatty-food and other not-too-healthy food items can do the magic. You must also stay away from late night food. Then eat food in small portions instead of consuming the whole bowl. These are some of the ways to reduce weight.
When these steps are taken, combined with exercise and proper hydration, one can be sure of having to raise the bar for a healthy living by at least 50% in this new year.
In addition to these, cutting down on alcohol is a solid move for the new year. Too much drinking wrecks lives, It is not about cutting it out completely, but being mindful of your intake. You may have to set some limits or find healthier alternatives.
Sleeping at least seven to eight hours daily is yet another way to lubricate the year for a healthy living. Cleaning of the environment and ensuring good hygiene are all forms of good and healthy living. People should avoid unsafe sex, quit smoking, and refrain from drugs in this new year.
Finally, it is time for people to turn a new leave and put aside all bitter and ill-feelings such as backbiting, jealousy and learn to forgive others just as the Senate President has demonstrated to us.
