The Chairman, Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has expressed confidence that the 2024 Budget, under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, will bring significant benefits to Nigerians.

He gave the assurance during a live interview radio programme – The Platform, on Success 105.3 FM in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, according to his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Akeem Abas, on Friday.

Alli, representing Oyo South senatorial district in the National Assembly, urged citizens to continue supporting the government’s efforts to return the country to economic prosperity.

He highlighted the improvements in revenue generation that have resulted in a decrease in budget deficits. He lauded Tinubu’s dedication to improving the country’s financial situation and urged Nigerians to appreciate the progress made so far.

Alli stated: “The 2024 Budget is different from 2023 Budget. We’ve been running a deficit budget for several years. The reality today is that the percentage of deficit is less than what it used to be. Today, we have more money to conserve as a result of improvement in revenue generation. President Tinubu is doing very well. May God bless him and give him good health.”

Regarding the distribution of cash to vulnerable citizens, Alli acknowledged that it is not an ideal solution but stressed that it is better than doing nothing. He assured Nigerians that the current hardships they are facing would be over soon, comparing the temporary difficulties to the initial pain of pouring iodine on a wound.

On his political aspirations,  Alli dismissed speculations of eyeing the governorship seat in 2027, emphasising that he was elected as a senator. He reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his election promises and serving the people of Oyo South faithfully.

Alli stated his involvement in various oversight activities, including facilitating e-commerce and agribusiness opportunities for over a thousand youths. He also mentioned his efforts in supporting widows, traders, and other community members with a food bank worth N70million. He has also been instrumental in the establishment of ICT centres, solar lights, and other infrastructure projects to improve the livelihoods of his constituents.
