From Fred Itua, Abuja

Members of Borno State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have raised the alarm, over threats to their lives by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the State.

State PDP chairman in Bono State, Zanna Gaddama, who briefed newsmen in Abuja, on behalf of other members, called on security agencies to intervene ensure that there’s relative peace in the State.

Gaddama also called on the governor of the State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, to do the needful and ensure that the atmosphere is conducive enough before, during and agyet next year’s general elections.

Gaddama said: “We want to draw the attention of Nigerians and more particularly the security agencies on the threat to peace and security being planned by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Borno State Chapter.

“While all hands are on deck by both leadership and members of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) to eradicate poverty, redeem people from hardship, put an end to insecurity and bad governance in Borno State, some people from APC are making frantic efforts to dragg the State back to the dark days of insecurity.

“The people of Borno and more particularly members and supporters of our party the PDP are shocked to hear these open threats to their lives.

“We as leaders of the PDP have been inundated with calls from concerned members and supporters of our party. Our party members and supporters feel this open call for violence as a threat to their lives and against their right to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed right to support and vote for the Party and candidates of their choice.

“As a law abiding party, we have already written petitions to the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the DSS, the National Security Adviser and the Abdulsalam Abubakar Peace Commitee

“We want to use this medium to once again to call on all security agencies referred to above to take serious action against these insensitive leaders who are hell bent on breaching the fragile peace that we have attained in Borno State after loosing thousands of lives of the citizens through the hard work, resilience and perseverance of our security agencies.

“We cannot afford to go back to those dark days and anyone calling for violence is an enemy of Borno and an enemy of Nigeria.”
