The Coalition of Civil Society Groups, CCSG, Wednesday, has warned against the growing campaign of calumny against governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami in the lead-up to the 2023 general election, saying that such campaigns cannot stampede them to resign their positions.
This was contained in a statement signed by the President, CCSG, Etuk Bassey Williams, and Secretary General, CCSG, Abubakar Ibrahim, respectively, while reacting to a protest shrouded in secrecy inside a hotel without a particular address and location in Abuja, said the rented crowd today, called on serving ministers of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet who have declared their presidential ambition publicly to resign their positions.
The coalition condemned the protest and described the group claiming to be under the APC as disgruntled and faceless.
The statement pointed that Emefiele and Malami are two noble appointees of president Muhammadu Buhari’s government and should not be dragged into dirty politics going into 2023 election and they are yet to decide despite receiving calls from different groups to contest.
The statement reads in part, “We condemn in strong terms the barbaric manner some disgruntled and faceless group, APC Youths and Solidarity Forum, which is unknown to the All Progressive Congress, APC, went on to stage comic protest and call on the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami to resign their positions, saying it is their choices to contest or not to contest in elections come 2023.
“This group is not even registered with the APC but are sponsored by some terrible politicians who want to tear the party apart.
“They have gone out to sponsor these youths who are persons of easy virtues who are readily available to be used by this politicians who are seeking relevance.
“We want the group that is hired and used by these politicians who don’t mean well for Nigerians to desist from the act because their action is libelous and we urge them to embrace democratic norms and values.”
The statement also added that, “The group is being misled and misguided to call on Emefiele and Malami to resign, and we advice him not to hence forth mention the name of Emefiele and Malami in any of their protest but to channel their energy into understanding the workings and success stories of Emefiele and Malami concerned with an immense value.
It will be recalled that a group called APC Youths and Solidarity Forum Wednesday, called on the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, and the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, for seeking elective positions in 2023 to resign from office ahead of the APC primaries.
