Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 20 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers and three gunrunners. It also rescued 75 victims in Birnin Gwari.
Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Rabiu, said: “The operation underscored the command’s resolve to dismantle criminal network threatening the peace and security of the state. We are closing in on bandits already. I visited some black spots and redeployed some of the tactical team operatives.
“A crack team from the Birnin Gwari Area Command received credible information from the National Union of Road Transport Workers [NURTW]. Seventy-five victims were rescued after armed men reportedly abducted them at Folwaya, near Birnin-Gwari. The victims, comprising men, women and children, travelling in commercial buses, were rescued unharmed following swift police intervention.
“The Makarfi Police Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes, dislodged bandits from their hideouts around Gidan Mijin Gwaggo, Durum, in Makarfi LG, and rescued three victims. The command neutralised notorious kidnappers, arrested 16 suspected kidnappers, six suspects in possession of 170 pieces of counterfeit dollar notes and three suspected gunrunners.
“Ikara Police Division mobilised, alongside members of the vigilante service, arrested six suspected kidnappers after raiding a house allegedly used as a holding facility in Dogon Pako.
“A woman suspect, Aisha, was arrested in Ramin Kura while attempting to exchange counterfeit dollar notes for naira. She confessed that the fake currency was supplied by two men, leading to the arrest of other members of the syndicate. They will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
