Two brothers from Okeba in Delta State, Frank and Evans Aweto, have survived open-heart surgeries

The medical operations were sponsored by the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation (SEOF).

The brothers were among the beneficiaries of SEOF’s adult open-heart medical mission held in collaboration with the Vincent Obiama Ohaju Memorial (VOOM) Foundation.

Frank and Evans underwent the life-saving surgeries at the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital in Oraifite, Anambra State.

The medical institution, specialising in cardiothoracic care, has already successfully completed 69 groundbreaking open-heart surgeries over the past two years.

Briefly recounting his story, Frank, the elder sibling, shared how he discovered his heart disease during a routine medical check-up.

The life-altering diagnosis came as he was about to enroll at the Petroleum Institute in Warri. For years, Frank silently endured the symptoms, doing menial jobs to support his family after their father’s death.

Frank expressed his deep gratitude to the SEOF’s medical mission, recognising that it was the reason both he, and his brother were still alive till date.

As gathered, Evans faced a more severe cardiovascular disease. He was said ro have been misdiagnosed and dismissed by multiple healthcare providers. He reportedly suffered debilitating symptoms for a lifetime, including painful chest episodes and shortness of breath.

Evans recounted: “My resilience never faltered, even during the darkest times when my condition remained undiagnosed until SEOF stepped in.”

The Executive Director of SEOF, Mrs Chidimma Okoye, described the Aweto brothers’ story as a reminder of the immense healthcare challenges faced by countless Nigerians due to limited access to medical care.

She expressed her joy in witnessing Frank and Evans thriving, emphasising that the surgeries granted them the opportunity to lead happy, and healthy lives.
