2 in court over alleged N250, 000 property theft

Two men – Kolawole Boyede, 25, and Okikiola Temiyemi, 27, on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, over alleged stealing of property worth N250, 000.

The defendants, a barber and tailor, respectively, whose addresses were not given, are facing a three-count charge of felony, burglary, and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 16, around 8:00p.m at Ogunsola Street in Okitipupa.

He said that defendants broke into the house of the complainant, Omonike Ayangbade and stole a Tiger generator worth N80,000, one 6kg gas cooker valued at N50,000, a rechargeable fan worth N70,000 and kitchen utensils valued at N50,000, with total value of N250,000.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 516, 315, and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Mayowa Olanipekun granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each and one surety each in like sum.

He added that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that he adjourned the case until September 30 for further hearing.
