The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Abdulmajid Dan-Azumi and Abdulnafiu Usman, both of Kwanan Mariga, Mariga Local Government of the state for allegedly killing a 10- year-old Yaseer Mustapha of the same address after collecting N110,000 ransom money.
The two suspects were said to have conspired and kidnapped the victim from the parents resident on July 24, 2025, while the parents were in the farm.
The suspects subsequently demanded a ransom of N3.5million from the parents, threatening to kill the teenager if the ransom was not paid.
According Niger State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Wasiu Abiodun ,after much negotiation, the parents were able to raise N100,000 and paid the same to an account provided by the suspects”.
He disclosed that a month later, the parents were called again by the abductors to pay another N10,000 to one Abdulmajid Dan-Azumi,32,of the same address which they (parents) obliged.
However, after the payment, there was no response from the abductors and this informed the decision of the parents to report the incident to the police in September, two months after.
“Immediately the complaint was received and transferred to the Anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), for investigation, actions were taken and the said Abdulmajid Dan-Azumi was trailed and arrested, which also led to the arrest of his accomplice, Abdulnafiu Usman of the same Kwana-Mariga.
“The two suspects confessed to the crime, unfortunately killed the boy, and buried him in an uncompleted building in the neighbourhood.
“Police operatives were led to the scene and the decomposed body was recovered”, adding that the body was released to the family for burial rites, while the suspects were charged to court.
