Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has commenced screening of 190 applicants for its 2023/24 oversea scholarship scheme in the South East.

The exercise which is for for PhD and MSc candidates was held at the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus.

The team lead of PTDF,  Samson Amadi, who addressed journalists during the exercise said the programme is part of the core mandates of the agency aimed at sending Nigerians who studied Engineering, Computer, Geology ,and other Science and management courses abroad for their MSc and PhD.

He said: “Every year, we train a number of Msc and PhD students depending on our budget for the year. We have over 190 participants in the South East but we have others in the other six geo-political zones like South South, South West, North East, North West and central.

“After the interview we will select the best. Like last year, we selected the best two for MSc and two for PhD making it 4 per state. The scholarship is 100% funded by PTDF. The exercise is free starting from application till you complete the program,” he said.

Press and Internal Relation, PTDF, Jennifer Christian said that only the best five would be selected in each of the five states in the zone, adding that the selection would be based on merit.

Christian said the agency pays the students’ tuition, visa, living allowance, accommodation and other fees to make them comfortable, adding that the initial application was done using the agency’s social media and online platforms.

A Phd student, Onyinye Gift, who applied for Msc in Integrated Petroleum Geology in Aberdeen University, Scotland said she was hopeful of being selected.
