One hundred and seventy two orphans and other indigents persons have been given scholarships by the member representing Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency of Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Chinedu Ogah.
The scholarship is the seventh batch of the lawmaker’s scholarship scheme.
Over 3,000 secondary school students wrote exams for the scholarship while only 172 of them passed the exams.
The beneficiaries are to study from JSS 1 to SSS 3 in Blessed Martins International School, a world class school in Abakaliki, the state capital.
They were formally given admission in the school at the weekend.

Addressing them, Ogah said the gesture was to give them quality education and training that would change their conditions.
“As we are privileged to be educated, we should translate that to the less privileged. We are preparing them for tomorrow, we are laying a solid foundation for these future leaders.
“When we are able to give them a good education, it will reduce insecurity, unemployment and poverty,” he said.
Ogah who is the Chairman, House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, said the gesture was also to complement efforts of Governor Francis Nwifuru in the education sector.
Commissioner for Education in the state, Dr. Donatus Ilang, described the school where the beneficiaries were admitted as one of the best schools in the country and commended the lawmaker for the gesture.
