No fewer than 14 passengers were killed and four others injured in a fatal accident which occurred in Jigawa State.
The Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Police Command, Lawan Adamu, in a statement, yesterday, said the accident occurred in Kanya village, following a head-on collision involving a DAF Truck and a Toyota Hiace bus.
He explained that the Toyota Hiace bus with registration no. XA 381 GAS was coming from Kano to Kanya market, when the accident occurred, adding that the bus was on a high speed and, also, overloaded with passengers.

He explained that the driver was earlier stopped by the Immigration officers at a checkpoint, adding that rather than stop, he veered to the other lane, resulting in the collision with the truck. He further explained that as a result of the accident, 14 passengers died, instantly, while four others sustained severe injuries.
“On receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Kanya Division, alongside his patrol team, raced to the scene. On their arrival, the corpses and injured were evacuated and rushed to Kanya Babba Cottage Hospital,” he added.
He said that the deceased were certified dead by a doctor on duty, while the injured were receiving medical attention at the same hospital.
