No fewer than 11, 360 students have enrolled for nomadic education in Anambra State.
Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Nomadic Education, Kaduna, Prof. Bashir Haruna Usman, who disclosed this at a five-day training workshop for nomadic teachers, said 95 nomadic schools exist in the state, with 42 migrant farmers, eight pastoralists and 42 fisher folks.
Usman also gave an enrolment figure of 11,360, out of which 5,707 are males, 5,653 are females, while 496 teachers were made up of 398 females and 98 males.
Meanwhile, the commission has raised the alarm over the mounting level of insecurity in the South East zone. It said frequent bloody clashes between herdsmen and farmers in their host communities were major setbacks in the enrolment of students in the nomadic schools in the area.
Usman who represented by the commission’s Director, Social Mobilisation and Outreach, Mohammed El-nafaty, Usman added that kidnapping and other social vices being perpetrated in the zone have hindered the efforts of the commission to ensure that nomads get the best education for self-development.
