100 suspected kidnappers, robbers arrested in Kaduna

Kaduna State Police Command has arrested over 100 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers and rescued 10 victims. Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Rabiu, said: “We are going after the criminals terrorising the state.

“Operatives arrested 25 suspected kidnappers and killers, recovered firearms, stolen vehicles, 2,700 sachets of tramadol drugs in a series of operations. Birmin Yero Division arrested six suspects for mob killing of two travellers at Gidan Kalu village, Birmin Yero, a few kilometres from Maraban Jos, on allegations of being kidnappers and thieves. Operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Ikare Division arrested nine suspected bandits.

“Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, established a complaint service and Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to tackle rising cases of serious crime. It is designed to serve as a strategic, specialised and rapid response strike force against violent crime nationwide.

“We are committed to the mandate of the IGP to equip officers of the VCRU with the requisite knowledge and capacity for efficient, lawful and rights-compliant service delivery. Police Anchau Division launched a complaint service and conducted an operation, which led to the rescue of a seven-year-old in Maigana, Soba LG. The victim’s child was reported kidnapped while returning from school, with the abductors demanding N40 million with a threat to kill the child, if the payment was not made.

“Police Kawo Division acted on credible intelligence at Kawo flyover where criminals sighted operatives and fled into a cemetery. Operatives of Zaira Area Command on surveillance arrested a suspect with 44 pieces of sealed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

“Officers have been directed to be professional, firm, courteous in the discharge of their duties and imbibe community policing. They are also advised on discipline and integrity as core values that every officer must uphold. Officers should shun corruption and illegal duty. Rather they should have good relationship with the public and respect fundamental human rights of the citizens.”
