1 slumps, dies on football pitch during tournament in Osun

A 29-year-old man, Adeyemi Adewale, has died during the Adeleke Memorial football match in Osogbo, Osun State.

The deceased was said to be participating in the annual football match in honour of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, before he slumped on the field and died thereafter.

Findings showed that the deceased came from Ilesa West to participate in the annual football match, held at Ataoja school of science, Osogbo.

A statement by the spokesperson of the police in Osun, Yemisi Opalola, on Friday, confirmed the incident.

Opalola explained that the incident happened on Thursday while the Adeleke memorial cup finals was ongoing.

“While the Adeleke memorial cup finals match was going on Ataoja school of science, one Adeyemi Adewale (29), a player from Ilesa West football team, slumped on the pitch.

“He was rushed to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by the Doctor.

“Meanwhile, his corpse has been deposited at the hospital morgue,” Opalola said.
