One person was stabbed to death while many were injured and vehicles damaged when commercial motorcycles operators popularly known as Okada riders attacked a mini bus (Korope) at Ogba, Lagos
The Korope driver was attacked on Thursday, but died today.
According to a witness, the Okada riders mistook the occupants of the bus as policemen who usually came to extort them and attacked the occupants with dangerous weapons including daggers.
The Korope driver was stabbed severely before the Okada riders realised that he was not a Policeman and they fled the scene.
According Izu Madunebi, ” the victim was rushed to the hospital, but he gave up the ghost. The news of the man’s death spread like wildfire,and yesterday morning, Korope drivers and their sympathisers came for vengeance and attacked Okada riders and there was free for all. Bottles , daggers,other cudgels were freely used . Many people were injured , one person died, while many property were damaged. It took the intervention of the police to save the situation”.
Lagos State Police Relations Officer (PPRO),SP Benjamin Hundyin, said there was a murder on Thursday; a group of Okada riders at Ogba, at about 11 30 on the previous day has attached a commercial bus driver (Korope driver), thinking that the occupants were Police officers enforcing Lagos law on motorcycle riders,”they used knife to inflict injury on the chest of one of the occupants Abiodun Hassan, 36. He was later rushed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Ikeja, for treatment, but he gave up the ghost”.
According to him, a team of policemen were drafted to the scene and two suspects: Nura, Seidu and Yusuf Abubakar were arrested, while they are being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the body of the deceased had been deposited in a public mortuary.
