One person has been killed in Amangbala, Ohaisu community in Afikpo Local Government, Ebonyi State.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of yesterday( Sunday). The deceased, Peter, was murdered  over a minor disagreement with one of the villagers, Daniel.

The community was celebrating its highest festival, Iko Ohaisu ,when the incident occurred.

A resident of the area, Oyim Chukwuemeka told Daily Sun that  the suspect stormed the revered Ogo Amaokwu-Amangbala chambers around 1 a.m., where preparations for the festival  were in full swing.

According to reports, he started harassing everyone inside the chamber, demanding a fee of N1000 as a levy for using the Ogo for their costume, which he claimed was cleaned by him and his associates.

“When he accosted the now-deceased Peter, he politely told him he had no money on him and was already exhausted. His appeal fell on the deaf ears of the suspect, who immediately used a piece of a bottle and left a deep cut on the victim. The suspect left immediately.

“Peter was then left in the pool of his blood until natives decided to rush him to Maranatha Hospital in Amangbala. At that time, the victim had lost a lot of blood, requiring that he be transfused with three pints of blood, accompanied by a deposit of N10,000. Peter later died, even when the suspect was already apprehended by angry youths”, Oyim said.

He disclosed that the incident has affected the festival and that policemen have been arresting people indiscriminately since it happened, causing the area to be  in disarray.

Ebonyi state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the incident, saying,“We  are already aware of this incident and the suspect is in our custody”, he told Daily Sun.
