Blinken hoping for Gaza hostage deal

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken

By Ezekiel David

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has described the latest diplomatic drive by Washington to broker a deal between Israel and Hamas to stop the war as “maybe the last opportunity” to get the hostages home, calling it a “decisive moment” in the Gaza truce talks.

The top US ambassador expressed concerns about a potential attack by Iran on Israel in the wake of the July death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

He added that Washington was also working to ensure that there was no regional escalation, speaking before meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
