Senator Adams Oshiomhole has said the Federal Government’s decision to give workers an additional ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance shows that President Bola Tinubu cares about their welfare.
The Edo North senator made the comment on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he praised the administration for the intervention.
Oshiomhole argued that the allowance would make a significant difference to low-income earners, particularly those whose monthly pay was previously ₦70,000.
“I think this government is doing well. If a man who was on ₦70,000 now is given ₦70,000 addition that makes it ₦140,000 for him it’s a hundred percent increase and if you know what ₦10,000 means for the real masses, you’ll appreciate that Tinubu has shown that he cares,” he said.
The Federal Government approved the monthly allowance for workers at all levels for six months, beginning in November 2026. The decision followed a meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on October 27.
The agreement also includes plans to pay outstanding peculiar allowances in three equal instalments, starting in November.
However, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) rejected the arrangement, arguing that workers needed a permanent salary increase rather than temporary financial relief.

Oshiomhole also used the interview to criticise the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, under which Atiku Abubakar served as Vice President.
He alleged that the government struggled to ensure workers received their salaries, while contrasting its foreign exchange policy with Tinubu’s decision to unify the exchange rate.
The senator said the 2027 presidential election would give Nigerians an opportunity to compare Tinubu’s record with that of Atiku, whom he accused of presiding over a system in which access to different exchange rates depended on personal connections.
He also criticised Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), saying he had not presented an alternative to Tinubu’s policies.
“Peter Obi has not offered any alternative. I’ve always said that Peter Obi is a trader; the logic of a trader is short term turnover. A statesman that Tinubu represents thinks of the next generation,” Oshiomhole said.
Although he acknowledged the right of opposition candidates to seek the presidency, the senator argued that Tinubu should be allowed to continue in office rather than bringing in a new leader.
He said the President had already gone through the initial challenges of governing and should be given the opportunity to build on his administration’s work.
