Zulum seeks Canada scholarship, investment deals for Borno

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has opened talks with educational institutions in Canada to secure scholarship opportunities for students from the state as part of a broader drive to strengthen human capital development and attract investment.

The proposed partnership would provide opportunities for Borno students to pursue academic programmes and acquire vocational skills in Canada, with particular emphasis on education, agriculture and technology.

Spokesman to the governor, Dauda Iliya, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying Zulum would engage universities, technology hubs and agricultural research institutions during his visit to Canada.

“During his stay in Canada, Governor Zulum is scheduled to meet with representatives from leading Canadian universities, tech hubs, and agricultural research institutions,” Iliya said.

He said the engagements would focus on education, skills development, agriculture, livestock, technology and investment as part of efforts to diversify Borno’s economy and strengthen its human capital base.

According to him, Zulum is also seeking technical support, knowledge transfer and foreign direct investment for the state.

The governor would explore vocational training programmes tailored to contemporary labour market demands and partnerships with Canadian technology firms to promote digital literacy and establish innovation hubs in Maiduguri.

Iliya said the engagements were expected to broaden opportunities for Borno students while strengthening partnerships capable of supporting the state’s economic and technological development.
