Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has announced the approval of N1 billion for the training of unqualified teachers in the state.
Zulum made the announcement on Tuesday at the inauguration of the 27 local government Education Secretaries and distribution of 58 monitoring and evaluation vehicles in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
“I want to convey the approval through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of training of 1,000 teachers, who have O’Level certificate as at June (2023) and 2,000 teachers who have low qualifications for teaching in primary school. To this effect, the sun of N1 billion will be released,” he disclosed.
Zulum said the education sector in the state requires huge support, noting that it was for this reason his administration reviewed the oval government education secretaries cadre.
He said monitoring and evaluation of the education development of the state has also been the pivot of his administration. He said this approach has led to “decrease in the number of out-of-school children from 2 million to less than 800,000” in recent time.
He announced a consolidated salary structure equivalent to that of permanent secretaries in the state for the 27 Education Secretaries He also distributed 27 Four-Wheel drive vehicles to the local governments and 30 Volkswagen cars for the official use of the education secretaries.
He warned that any secretaries who underperform will be replaced.”
