Zaria Athletics Grand Prix meet: Oche Emmanuel set Personal Best in 100metres men

Oche Emmanuel has won the 100metres Men of the Zaria Athletics Grand Prix.

Emmanuel, a member of the Nigeria 4×100 metres team and former U-20 Confederation of Africa Championships, coasted home with a Personal Best time of 10.12m ahead of Igube Chinemerem and Monday Ebuka who came second and third with 10.13 and 10.35 respectively.

Haruna Hajara won the 100metres female category with a time of 11.63 ahead of Ayenuro Taiye and Blessing Ehi Ikpa.

Other winners are Aniefuna Anulika in the women’s shot put, Kalu Chidozie in the Triple Jump, Salisu Ibrahim in the 1500 metres men while James Comfort won the 800 metres female category.

Meanwhile, the former president of the Nigeria Association of Athletics Technical Officials (NATO), Goodluck Akpodeh, has praised the organisers of the Grand Prix meet, saying it has many advantages to the athletes and the development of athletics in the country.

Akpodeh said the meet gives the athlete an opportunity to check their performance and fitness.

The Assistant Secretary of Kaduna Coaches Association, Mark Orduen, said the turnout would have been more than what was recorded but for the gubernatorial and state assembly elections that coincided with the earlier scheduled March 18 and 19 for the events.
