From John Bassey, Gusau
The Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Moriki, has kicked against the parallel Assembly established by some suspended members of the state assembly.
He annulled the formation of the parallel assembly while addressing journalists in his office yesterday.
He described the parallel assembly as illegal and unconstitutional.
He reaffirmed that the State Assembly remained the only legitimate legislative body authorised to carry out legislative duties in the state.

Reacting to the actions of the suspended members, who formed a parallel legislative body, Moriki said: “Any legislative sitting must take place within the official premises of the Assembly House in Gusau.”
He noted that as of Tuesday, there was a report circulating on social media that a parallel Assembly sat and took major decisions on the affairs of the state.
The speaker further emphasised that, Zamfara State has only one legitimate House of Assembly and whatever was done by unconstitutional Assembly was null and void.
He recalled that there was a pending case before a court of law over the misguided nature of the suspended lawmakers, stressing the law would take its course.
“I will not comment further until the court delivers its judgment,” he said.
