From John Bassey, Gusau
The Nigerian Legion Zamfara State Council, under the leadership of Retired Army Warrant Officer Aminu Isiaka, has announced its readiness to partner the state government in combating banditry, insurgency and other forms of criminality in the state.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit to Governor Dauda Lawal at Government House in Gusau by the leadership of the Nigerian Legion Zamfara State Council, where Governor Lawal was decorated as the Rescue Commander for the people of Zamfara State, alongside members of the state Executive Council as well as other stakeholders, ahead of the 15 January 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Lawal appreciated members of the Nigerian Legion Zamfara State chapter for their efforts in supporting the government with useful intelligence and thanked them for decorating him as the Rescue Commander for the good people of Zamfara State.
The recognition of Governor Dauda Lawal as the Rescue Commander by members of the Nigerian Legion in Zamfara State underscored the commitment of the Dauda Lawal-led administration in bringing equitable development to all areas of the state.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to you for decorating me and other members of the state Executive council ahead of January 15th 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration”.
Governor Lawal pledged four cardinal welfare packages for the Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Legion: construction of an office complex for the legion, provision of mobility, inclusion of military veterans in governance, and funding to care for the families of fallen heroes.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Zamfara State Council of the Nigerian Legion, Retired Army Warrant Officer Aminu Isiaka, stated as follows; I am very delighted to welcome you all to the launching of emblem as part of the activities to mark 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.
Federal Government of Nigeria has by law set aside 15th January of every year to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the activities would begin at the launching of emblem and appeal fund, followed by Jumua’t service and church service.

The final activity would take place at Zamfara state trade fair on the 15th of January 2026, where there would be a formal performance of military parade and laying of wreath on the tomb of unknown soldiers.
The event would be in recognition of our fallen heroes which of course will not be in vain to encourage the serving soldiers to put in their best in the service of their father land as They are always remembered and their death cared for by the Government and good people of Nigeria.
The fallen heroes sacrificed their lives in order to protect and defend the life and property of our dear Nation and it’s citizens. Upon their untimely departure, they left behind children, widows, aged parents which needed to be cared for via this appeal fund.
However, the existing veterans also need the kind hearted support of the well meaning people of Zamfara state and Nigeria to care for their families. We all know the current general economic situation of the country which has led to the increase of prices of commodities, placing compelling demands on our little earnings as retired and weak veterans.
It is on this light that we solicit the kind gesture of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Zamfara state Dr. Dauda Lawal to continue to extend his good hands of support to Nigerian Legion Zamfara state council and veterans community.
No doubt that this administration inherited a lot of challenges that need urgent attention ranging from insecurity, education, healthcare to mention but a few. But between two years of administration of Governor Dauda Lawal the people of Zamfara state have begin to see a new Zamfara with the construction of Gusau international Airport reaching 80% completion, Gusau township road, Gusau to Rawaya, water Board to Magami, Dansado, Maradun to Dosara and other on going construction of rural roads within the state.
We therefore pray the Almighty Allah to grant Governor Dauda Lawal, the Rescue Commander the needed wisdom and grace to continue to bring tangible rescue to the people of Zamfara state.
Looking at some of the challenges facing the smooth running of Nigerian Legion Zamfara state chapter, I would like to humbly use this opportunity to forward some request to His Excellency, one is a befitting office complex to enable us carry out our daily activities just as it’s been done for NUJ and Central Police Station Gusau, 18 seater bus to ease our transportation while attending activities within the state and Abuja and finally appointment of some of our members into the state cabinet which would enable us to contribute our quarter in securing a peaceful environment for our dear state and funds for continuous assistance of the families of the fallen heroes.
