Zamfara holds workshop to boost routine immunisation

The Zamfara State Primary Healthcare Board, in partnership with the Solina Centre for International Development and Research under the SPARK Project, held a workshop to improve routine immunisation and primary healthcare coordination.

The event, hosted at Jaiz Hotel at the weekend, brought together government officials and development partners to revitalise the state’s Technical Working Groups (TWGs).

The Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Board, Dr Hussaini Yakubu Anka, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to the initiative.

He explained that the workshop focused on the dissemination of key findings from desk reviews and key informant interviews.

Alhaji Rilwanu Musa Zurmi, Permanent Secretary of the Zamfara State Ministry of Health, said TWGs are vital for aligning government and partner priorities.

He, however, noted that their effectiveness has declined over time due to irregular meetings, poor documentation and weak follow-up.

He emphasised that reviving the groups will build long-term sustainability and accountability.

Other officials who attended the workshop included the Executive Secretary of the SPHCB, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, directors, immunisation managers, programme officers and representatives of the NPHCDA, ACASUS, AFENET, Chigari Foundation, UNICEF and other key health organisations.
