The Zamfara State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has formed a technical committee to locate an appropriate site for the construction of an airstrip in Anka Local Government Area of the state.

The committee was set up by the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Lawal Barau Bungudu, in Gusau.

The technical committee will work with the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ministry for Housing Development, Zamfara Geographic Information System, Anka Local Government Council, the Anka Emirate Council, and security agencies.

The committee’s task is to locate an appropriate site for building an airstrip in Anka Local Government Area.

To fulfil this mandate, the ministry sent a technical team to Anka to conduct thorough field inspections, engage with stakeholders, and perform technical evaluations in compliance with planning, safety, and regulatory requirements.

This was revealed in a statement by the ministry’s Information Officer, Jamilu Bello, on Friday.

He said the committee’s assignment is ongoing and that, upon completion, a suitable site will be recommended for the proposed project.

The committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the works ministry, Engineer Haruna Dikko, while the Director of Civil Engineering, Engineer Amiru Musa Anka, leads the fieldwork and serves as the committee’s secretary, providing professional guidance and technical expertise.

This effort reflects Governor Dauda Lawal’s commitment to improving transportation links, bolstering security operations, and supporting sustainable socio-economic growth in the state.
