The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has said it will shut down illegal private higher institutions operating in the state.
The warning was released by the ministry’s director of higher education recently, lamenting that the activities of the illegal schools pose serious danger to education system in the state.
He said all unregistered private higher institutions have been directed to report to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology at the JB Yakubu Secretariat from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, for verification and further directives.
He warned that failure to adhere to the ministry’s directives would attract severe consequences.
It was reported that many of these institutions reportedly lack basic requirements, such as qualified staff and proper facilities, which compromises educational standards.
The ministry emphasized that running private higher institutions without official approval breaches current laws and will face strict penalties.
The education ministry reiterated its commitment to upholding quality education, and urged all stakeholders to support efforts to maintain standards in the sector.
