Zamfara governor takes delivery of transit buses from China

From John Bassey, Gusau

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has taken delivery of long transit buses ordered from China to ease transportation within the state metropolis.

Governor Lawal received the buses at Government House in Gusau, after successful test runs and functionality approval from state engineers at the Government House, Gusau.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Lawal expressed joy over the arrival of the transit buses and reaffirmed his commitment to focus on the Rescue Mission Agenda of his administration, ensuring that hardship, poverty, insecurity, and other vices are either reduced or eradicated from the state.

The buses are intended to operate within Gusau main town and neighbouring cities to assist in conveying commuters from one bus stop to another at a modest fare. The aim is to reduce the stress of long treks, minimise costs, and protect the health and well-being of the people of Zamfara State.

The total number of transit buses ordered from China was 20, with five now on the ground. The remaining 15 will be delivered in the first quarter of 2026.

Daily Sun gathered that there will be special training for the drivers of these buses, as they are not the type drivers are typically used to.

The training and employment will be handled by the Zamfara State Transport Authority.

According to a state official, “We have constructed bus terminals all over the metropolis. This is a pilot project. We are appealing to the would-be drivers to operate with care, knowing that these are public buses, so we could get more for public use.”
