Daily Sun reports that the victims were going to their farms in the early hours of Sunday when the boat capsized in the Bakin Kasuwa River of Uban Dawaki Ward, Gummi local government area.

An eyewitness, Abubakar Muhammad told newsmen that 53 farmers were in the boat out of which only 12 were rescued alive, including the captain of the boat, while the remaining 41 died.

Reacting, Atiku said the tragic boat mishap has cast “a pall of sorrow upon us all”.

He added, “My heart goes out to the victims and their bereaved families, whose suffering is especially poignant. I also extend my deepest sympathies to the Zamfara State government, for this grievous event is a profound loss to the entire community.

“May the Almighty receive the souls of the departed into His eternal embrace and bestow upon their mourning families the strength and solace needed to endure their profound grief.”
