As Team Nigeria sweeps 100m gold in Zambia

Nigeria’s U-20 Record holder in the 100m, Tima Godbless has been crowned the new African Queen in the 100m women’s event at the ongoing Zambia 2023 African Junior Athletics Championship in Ndola.

Team Nigeria athletes displayed incredible performances in the 100m events sweeping three out of the four gold medals at stake in the event.

Godbless, who finished 5th in the women’s 100m final at last year’s World U-20 Championships, overpowered the strong field with a brilliant 11.45s to become the crown queen in the women’s 100m finals.

Opeyemi Oke added another gold medal to the list, making it double joy in the 400m (U20) producing a time of 52.68s on the clock to become the women’s 400m U20 champion. Ajayi Koyinsola also triumphed in the 100m Men U-20, where he grabbed the gold medal.

Ogazi Samuel won gold in the 400m Boys U18, just as Okwose Faith overpowered all oppositions to win Nigeria’s fourth gold in the 100m Girls U18 with a time of 11.54s ahead of her compatriot, Tianna Justina who clinched silver in 11.59s.

The jumps produced silver medals for Team Nigeria as Ewa Peace Henshaw competed in the U18 girl’s High Jump, scaling a height of 1.69m to claim the silver.

Justin Jimoh won silver in the U20 men’s high jump, sailing over the bar in a brilliant 2.05m, while Fiaku Goodluck took bronze in the U18 category with a leap of 2.00m.

Team Nigeria is in Zambia with 42 athletes and 10 officials for the championship running from April 28 to May 5, 2023.

At the 2019 edition of the championships held in  Cote d’Ivoi re , Team Nigeria finished third behind South Africa and Kenya .
