Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, yesterday, warned dealers of fireworks to desist from it forthwith or face the full wrath of the law.

The warning was contained in a statement signed by the state’s command Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor and made available to newsmen in Benin.

The statement said the essence of the ban is to be able to fight crimes and criminality in this yuletide season in the state.

According to the statement “Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public, particularly marketers, buyers and users of pyrotechnics such as fireworks, firecrackers popularly known as knock-out and their likes that the ban on the use of these items is still in force.

“The Command is therefore using this medium to advice the general public not to indulge in the sales or use of any form of pyrotechnics and to provide information to the Police about the dealers of knock-out before, during and after the yuletide season to avoid distractions that could create opportunity for hoodlums to perpetuate crimes and criminality and thereby cause threat to security in the state.

“The command warned that anyone caught in the act of selling and buying of knock-out or while using it would be made to face the wrath of the law”,

The statement reiterates the command’s commitments and readiness of officers and men to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the citizenry and residents of the state during this yuletide season.
